When shrines are created for a corporate leader you know that we have entered a new era for business.

An era where business is about far more than just making money, and where entrepreneurs are the visionaries who have the power to change the world.

It isn’t governments who are going to get us out of the current broken mess – they are far too busy trying to preserve the status quo.

It is individuals – taking inspired action to create change and lead the people into the new era.

At a time where our schools are still teaching us that complexity and detail are what wins grades and where governments churn out 68 page dossiers to express what could be summed up in an A4 page, I love this quote by Steve Jobs:

“That’s been one of my mantras — focus and simplicity. Simple can be harder than complex: You have to work hard to get your thinking clean to make it simple. But it’s worth it in the end because once you get there, you can move mountains.”— BusinessWeek interview, May 1998

In case you haven’t seen it here is Steve Job’s famous Stanford Speech -which talks about synchronicity, faith and passion; about keeping going when the ‘corporate’ world rejects you and about living each day as if it were your last. The new era is not so much about Business Plans and logical thought through 3 year forecasts as dreaming big and manifesting everything you need along the way; living in faith and working from the heart not the head.

Is it just me or does everyone else sense a tremendous ‘cleansing’ process going on right now ?

Suddenly stuff we have been used to being around for years (think NoTW) crumbles and vanishes overnight…  Governments are falling and economies are failing.  And the pace of change all seems to be speeding up.

On a personal level, what started out as a decision to stop drinking alcohol a week ago today has now turned into a personal ‘Project Life Cleanse’ – as I start to clear out everything that is no longer working for me.

Relationships, finances, clutter, habits… plugholes, pores, porches - it’s all up for grabs now!

When we clear this clutter of old energy we create the space for the new to flow.

The exciting thing for me is that this ‘World Detox’ is leading us into a totally new way of being – both as individuals and collectively on the Planet…

Let’s embrace the change!

I was inspired to write this blogpost by my 5 year old son who seems to have fallen in love with an older girl at school. I was tasked to help him deliver a love letter – which I discovered was full of printed money from pictures he had downloaded from the internet! Clearly he has got the connection that ‘women love men who have money’…

I am no fan of the ‘Alpha Male’ but even I must admit that hugely successful men are also very charismatic and extremely sexy. The question is, was it the money that gave them their sexual charisma – or was it their sexual charisma that attracted the money?

Napoleon Hill writes about the close connection between the sex drive and the ability to make money in his classic book ‘Think and Grow Rich’, citing Napoleon Bonaparte, Shakespeare, Oscar Wilde and Abraham Lincolm amongst others as outstanding achievers who also had a well documented highly sexual nature.

Hill calls this ‘The Mystery of Sex Transmutation’. The key is to take this huge sexual energy and to transmute it into wealth creating activity.

Over here in the feminine camp I have long argued that businesses run through passion are far more likely to deliver profit than ones run through a pure money motive. This is echoed by thought leaders like Nick Williams in his book The Work We Were Born To Do.

According to ancient wisdom the base chakra (which governs money making) and the sex chakra are closely linked… It follows that if you activate one you will also energise the other.

So I would love to know your view, do you think there is a connection between Money Sex and Love?

After Red Letter Days crashed in 2005 I had an ‘emergency visit’ from a feng shui guru who had contacted me in the aftermath of the meltdown to offer her help and advice.

Apparently 2005 had been my ‘Year 1′ in the feng shui astrology cycle – a year of great vulnerability and great loss.

Initially a cynic about these things, when I tracked back my ‘Nine Star Ki’ 9 year cycle it was chillingly accurate. For example, in 2004 (a year before the crash) I had been my ‘Year 9′ – the yang year of great Fame – where everything is to excess and a meltdown/breakdown is sure to follow. In every extreme yang are the seeds of yin…

Of course 2004 was the year I filmed Dragons’ Den and the first series was aired on TV (in January 2005 but still in the 2004 Chinese year).

Did you know that 4 of the 5 Spice Girls were in their ‘Year 9′ when they shot to fame in 1997? Year 9 is THE best year for you to go for fame and publicity.

Thus my interest in Nine Star Ki was born.

As well as a character reading tool, it is also invaluable in calculating where you are in your Nine Year Cycle. For all of us there are years to heal and hibernate, years to hatch new plans, and years to reap the harvest of our labours…

For example it’s interesting that Britney Spears had her post-Las Vegas wedding meltdown in her Year 1 in 2004.

And that in 1983 Michael Jackson was in his year of ‘Take Off’ after the Thriller Album was released. Shame they did not wait until his next ‘take-off’ Year 3 (2010) for his ‘This is It’ Tour to go live.

By pushing it ahead into 2009 (his year 2 of stagnaton and planning) it was just too soon in the cycle – and he could not cope with the pressure.

Finding out where you are in your Nine Year Cycle will be invaluable for you in deciding whether this is the year for you to launch a new business, to hibernate, to stick with your plans or to go for fame.

It’s an essential tool to help you work with your flow of Heaven Luck.

This weekend my life was transformed.

I want to tell you about it.

For months now a very close friend (who is also one of my coaches) has been trying to get me to do the Landmark Forum.  And I had been very effectively resisting.  Behind all the usual ‘I’m too busy’, ‘The time’s not right’, ‘My nanny’s ill’ excuses.

But (after booking and cancelling no less than three times before) this weekend I finally – and rather indignantly – DID IT!

When you enrol in the Forum you have to write on the form three things you want to get out of it. 

Mine were:

• To endure the entire three days (I’m notorious at getting bored/irritable and bailing out of courses/projects/commitments when things get uncomfortable - so it was a personal challenge for me to actually stick with something to the end - and notice my use of the word ‘endure’!)
• To clear the ‘blocks’ which seemed to be standing in the way of all my ‘cosmic orders’ from working
• To try to understand why I had such an addictive personality – i.e. everything to excess

And so I sat there on the first morning, one of 150 in the audience, thinking ‘There’s no way I will last this’ ‘These aren’t my kind of people’ ‘I’m not broken – so there’s nothing to fix!’ and ‘What the hell am I doing here???’

But I had set myself a challenge to stay with it – 9am to 10pm over three days – no matter what happened!  A HUGE commitment for busy old me…

As a trainer who runs my own workshops I’m also fascinated to see how others do it – and I was instantly impressed by our Forum leader David Ure.  His loud and over-bearing manner seemed to be irritating a lot of the audience, but it felt to me as though he was totally in command – and that there was much exciting stuff to come.

After the first three hours of being told about how our lives were playing out currently, the fact that we had never been properly listening up to now, the fact that we were never truly present to situations, we were then invited to leave if we wished to (with a 100% refund) – but if we stayed it would be with a commitment to fully participate (rather than just sit as an observer) in the process. 

No one left!

The whole weekend simply consisted of people getting up to the microphone and then David giving his observations.  In the beginning, people were invited to say what they wanted to get out of the Forum or what they wanted to know, and then as we progressed through the exercises we were set at every break and at the end of every day, we were invited to say what was unfolding for us.

In the exercises, we were invited to be authentic with people close to us, to write letters to people truly expressing how we felt, to make those phone calls that up to now we had been frightened of making.

And as each person came up to the microphone to share their experiences, certain stories were just incredibly emotional and moving.  And every time you were truly moved (to tears) by someone else, you started to realise it was touching something very deep inside about YOU.

My first big breakthrough came at 5am on the second morning when I suddenly woke up with a realisation about my childhood which was truly an ‘Oh-My-God-that-was-so-obvious-why-did-I-never-see-that-before’ moment.

My letter that first day was to my children – apologising for not being a good enough mother to them (I’d been too busy chasing money fame and fortune all my life), and then later I had emotional conversations with two of them which I’d never had before.

By the end of the second day I fully understood what had been driving the ’Soap Opera’ of my life.  When you get to that point of realisation, the ‘Soap Opera’ collapses.  It simply falls away.

I knew from my previous transformational work that it was important to ‘hold the space’ to see what else was going to happen – it’s so easy to think ‘I got it, now I’m fixed & sorted’ and switch off – so I stuck with it.  By the end of Day 3 I finally understood the ‘Meaning of Life’. 

Yes I really got it!!!

I’ve spent the past five years reading all the self-improvement and transformational books going – plus attending lots of courses and seminars and experiences around the subject, including meditation and all the rest of it, but I can truly say that I have not experienced anything as powerfully tranformational as the Landmark Forum.

It is not a teaching, or something to learn, so much as a process – a tranformational experience.

It’s not about getting to a better improved version of the old you, it is about getting a totally new perspective on life.  And it addresses parts of you which you had no idea whatsoever existed – let alone needed sorting!

As part of the course, at various points we were invited to ‘enrol’ others on the Landmark Forum.  The idea being, once you have ‘got it’, it’s easier to make life work when the others around you ‘get it’ too.  But every time that message came up, it was interesting to observe the huge resistance which started to fall on the room. 

As a marketer I think I understand practically every marketing technique and sales process there is going – and I too have sat through those inspirational/motivational events which are simply about trying to upsell me to the $10,000 programme.

But this was no such ‘upsell’.  It was simply asking us to consider who else we knew out there who might also benefit from going through the process – particularly all our loved ones. 

Isn’t it strange that we can easily go out and think nothing about spending £300 on a new handbag or TV, but when we are invited to spend the same money on completely tranforming our lives somehow it is a ‘sales con’? 

Isn’t it strange how we attach so much importance to ‘cost’ in life and so little to ‘value’?

On the Sunday evening, previous ‘graduates’ of the programme who had got their loved ones on to the Forum were invited along.  People on the course were invited to come to the microphone and give a message to that person. 

One woman was in tears, telling her husband how much she loved him, how she was sorry for being a self-righteous selfish cow up to now, and how she was now going to commit to making their marriage work.

Old cynical me would have written that off as vomit inducing schmaltz. 

New transformed me sees that as something truly magical.

It’s only a day since the intensive part of the Forum has ended, but already I have seen some incredible changes in my life. 

I am starting to ‘show up’ in a totally different way in every situation.  My relationship with my children, and how I am when I am with them has been completely transformed.  And my energy must certainly somehow have shifted – as suddenly complete strangers are opening up conversations and having little jokes with me!  I even sat having a conversation with the man opposite on the train from Birmingham to Manchester yesterday - and that would certainly NOT have happened in my old life!

The Forum ends with a ‘graduation’ evening tonight at the Holiday Inn at Regent’s Park in London.

From memory it’s been almost three years since I last came to Aberdeen.  

I used to be on the Board of one of the Enterprise Trusts and so made a monthly visit , and have many happy memories of the place.  That was in the days before everything went so badly wrong with the economy but Aberdeen is of course a little more insulated from the winds of downturn than most places because of its oil and gas industry.

So it was great to be back last night to speak to 250 students at the University of Aberdeen about ‘Finding Your Flow’ – a new talk I have created which is my entrepreneurial journey told in three Acts:  Act 1 – My ‘light-at-the-end-of-the-tunnel’ existence, as an employee working for others, Act 2 – My Red Letter Days rollercoaster era and Act 3 – My new role in the Enterprise Sector which has emerged through going with the ‘Flow’ of new opportunity.

It is a talk about the power of intent and the art of allowing, and understanding that when life takes you from Point A to Point B via Point C (which is often a place you visit while kicking shouting and screaming NO!!!) there is often a very good reason for it!

I didn’t ask for a fee for speaking last night but I received my reward in so many other ways – a wonderful expenses paid trip staying in a lovely suite overlooking the North Sea, dinner last night with great company plus already so much positive feedback and thanks received via email and Twitter.  Not to mention a gorgeous glass window hanging which was a gift for the evening.

How often in life we measure our success in monetary rewards while overlooking true prosperity.

I reflect on how lucky I am to be invited to inspire and motivate others through my experiences – and with hindsight  understand why I had to go through some of the Nightmares I’ve endured – which now allow me to speak from a place of vulnerability and authenticity about surviving adversity in life.

So thank you to the University of Aberdeen for reminding me once again that I am living my soul purpose – to help others on their journey towards personal fulfillment and success.

Those of you who have followed my Blog and messages on Twitter will know that I am fascinated by the ‘Law of Attraction’ and how the power of thought (both positive and negative) can dramatically impact our lives.

So I was delighted to be asked to contribute to a debate on all these themes at a fascinating and what I believe will be the most thought-provoking and possibly life-changing event – ‘The Message’ , which is happening next Friday 5 March.

The Message is being organised and hosted by Alan Forrest Smith, who is an extraordinarily charismatic talented speaker and also one of the world’s most successful copywriters (he spoke at my Marketing Magicians event in London last year).
