PROFILER
HOW MY ENTREPRENEURIAL PROFILING TEST WORKS…
After years of reading books on the subject of entrepreneurship, meeting, mentoring and corresponding with thousands of entrepreneurs (and would-be entrepreneurs) – and discussing the subject of entrepreneurship with experts, I have come to believe that there are many different types of entrepreneur, each of which can be as successful in their own way as the next.
And what works for one type of entrepreneur – in terms of support, advice, and business partners – will be completely different to another. Key is understanding the individual’s ambition, energy levels, drivers, tolerance to risk and attitude to success.
My Entrepreneurial Profiler therefore seeks to test two separate areas:
Alpha vs Zeta drivers (where Alpha Drivers = Money, Power and Ego and Zeta Drivers = Passion, People and
Ethics),
and
Level of ambition/determination and appetite for risk/rewards
The resulting scores point to the 9 different entrepreneurial types described below.
The results indicate where you are at the current time based on your answers to the Profiling questionnaire; however, entrepreneurs change throughout their life according to their stage in the journey. For example, someone just starting out in business with nothing to lose may be extremely ambitious and open to risk, whereas someone who has amassed a certain status and wealth may be more risk averse even though they are technically a more experienced and ‘advanced’ entrepreneur.
Equally, work/life balance or achieving ethical goals may be much more important to someone who has already achieved great material success in their life.
Once you have completed your test and read the profile, please do write and let me know whether you thought it was an accurate assessment at rachel.elnaugh@rachelelnaugh.com.
Here are the 9 different ‘Entrepreneur’ Types:
Ultrapreneur
Highly driven, ambitious and visionary, Ultrapreneurs have the potential to become billionaires – as well as ultimately great philanthropists.
Alphapreneur
Highly driven by money and the desire to win at all costs, Alphapreneurs are highly competitive and love displaying the trappings of their success.
Passionpreneur
Passionpreneurs go into business to do the thing that they love, rather than to make money. They have great energy and enthusiasm, and naturally attract the right people & opportunities.
Sociopreneur
Sociopreneurs are driven by a cause and want to use their business to change the world. However, they may lack drive and commercial skills.
Bosspreneur
As the name suggests, this type of entrepreneur goes into business because they want to call the shots. They like to control everything within their mini-empire and find it difficult to delegate.
Execpreneur
Execpreneurs typically come from a safe corporate environment and need structure to function. Often they are specialists who find it difficult to function as good all-rounders and may find it best to work in partnership with others.
Dadpreneur
Dadpreneurs have typically opted out of the corporate world, creating businesses which give them great flexibility, the ability to work close to home and family, plus real life/work balance.
Mumpreneur
Lifestyle is all important for Mumpreneurs who need to fit their business around their family. They are reluctant to take on risk and often operate their business from home.
Safepreneur
Safepreneurs are inspired to be in business but when it comes to the crunch often lack the energy and drive it takes to succeed. Risk averse, they are reluctant to leave their salaried job or commit funds to their business.
